LiUNA and NOVA Chemicals step up to help support local golfer’s campaign to raise money for youth mental health and wellness centre in Sarnia-Lambton

SARNIA, ON – September 9, 2019 – Today the Mike Weir Foundation is proud to announce founding sponsors LIUNA and NOVA Chemicals for the inaugural The Mike Weir Par 3 Challenge for Mental Health on September 19th at Huron Oaks Golf Course. The sold out golf tournament is in support of a new youth mental health and addictions centre for Sarnia Lambton.

Mike Weir, 8-time PGA winner and Masters Champion comments “I’m so thankful to see organizations like LiUNA and NOVA Chemicals give back to our community so generously. We are proud to have them on board to help us raise much needed funds for an ACCESS Open Minds facility in Sarnia”.

The Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) represents over 500,000 members in Canada and the U.S.A. and is the most progressive and fastest-growing union of construction workers, and one of the most diverse and effective unions representing public service employees. Mike Maitland, Manager Sarnia Local 1089 notes, “The hard working men and women of LiUNA are so proud to partner with Sarnia’s hometown hero, Mike Weir on this important initiative. We’ve always been proud of Mike for how much he gives back to our community and we’re honoured to play a role in helping him do so with the par 3 challenge.”

The Mike Weir Foundation is also proud to work with NOVA Chemicals as a sponsor and strong supporter of the campaign to raise funds for an ACCESS Open Minds facility in the community.

Mike Weir and his Foundation are partnering with several partners in Sarnia-Lambton to provide an ACCESS Open Minds mental health facility to serve our community. This facility means a significant change in the way that mental health and addiction care is provided to children and adolescents in the Sarnia-Lambton community. Bluewater Health, in partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent and St. Clair Child and Youth Services, will design and implementation of an ACCESS Open Minds site for Sarnia-Lambton. This community based, collaborative model will transform how existing services are delivered, resulting in improved access and engagement for youth and families seeking mental health and addictions care.
